Florida Animal Owners is a site dedicated
to assisting animal owners in protecting their right to own
animals. Laws and issues that negatively impact the
animals or their owners will be posted here to help the
average citizen stay abreast of current laws.
Animal Rights groups such as Humane
Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are hard at work trying
to force their philosophy on the average animal owner.
Their true agenda is to eventually end all animal use by
incremental changes to laws and regulations. That means
no medical research, no fur, and no consumption of eggs,
milk, meat, or fish, no pets. This also includes an
end to hunting, fishing, dog shows, service dogs, working
dogs, zoos, circuses, and rodeos. Yes it even means no
SeaWorld or Animal Kingdom. These groups have
hijacked the animal welfare movement through deceptive names
and rhetoric. Instead of using the bulk of their
donations to actually help animals they instead use the
money to sue state and federal governments, promote anti
animal legislation through Ballot Initiatives, as well as
pose a serious threat to the food supply and medical
research. Even once respected groups like the ASPCA
have been infiltrated by fanatics that divert funds from
direct animal care to excessive lobbying for laws they
support. This is relatively new to the ASPCA who spent
little money on lobbying nationally prior to 2010.
However in 2010 the ASPCA located in New York spent
$575,015.00 lobbying in the state of Missouri. One can
only wonder how much good those dollars could have done if
only used for the purpose intended, which is direct animal
care.
HSUS and like minded non profits can
often be heard at public hearings bemoaning how much money
hobby breeders make "off the backs of animals". While
Wayne Pacelle of HSUS draws a $234,000 a year salary plus
perks. Since these are all non profits they pay NO
taxes. Hobby breeders do not turn a profit and in fact
lose money, as do most of us that participate in hobbies.
Hobby breeders do however pay sales tax on pet food,
supplies, crates, leashes, etc as well as support numerous
businesses that we purchase goods from.
Additionally Dog/Cat/Horse Shows bring in thousands of
dollars to the
local businesses that surround a show site. Most clubs
donate money to their local shelters and have their own
rescue group for their particular breed. Call your
local shelter and ask how much money HSUS has provided them
for the care of animals.
In fact HSUS charges shelters for
training, inspections (even though they do not run any
shelters) and literature. HSUS & PETA take in millions
of dollars annually yet do little to nothing to actually
help animals. They are however constantly pounding the
halls of political leaders clamoring for more laws to force
their lifestyle (vegan) on you. They push for laws
that will increase surrenders, drive up food prices, retard
medical research and in the end cost the taxpayers
through cost of enforcement of laws that do nothing to aid
animals. Stop donating to these groups. They and
their employees are the ones that truly make money off the
backs of animals.
